Torrey Canyon? Yes, I do indeed. Very nasty. We already had gobs of oil on the beaches in England then - still do I think. Something to do with tankers flushing tanks in the English Channel. The Torrey Canyon oil was thick gloopy stuff all over the rocks, birds etc if I remember.

No oil here! We've had some small tar balls, but that's gone now. The beaches and sea are magnificent. Still the best kept secret and the best beaches in the world (and before everyone jumps on me - I used to be in the travel business and beach inspections and palm tree counting was a BIG part of my job world wide ;-) ......on balance, and although I'm VERY pro Thailand and Far North Queensland - these beaches are special!

OK - that's it from the Emerald Coast Tourist Board!

Weather to break? it's 78f and a glorious day her.........................................

Add 20F and nearly 90% humidity behind that. This year, TN had one of the coldest winters on record, the wettest ever May on record, the hottest June on record (the high has been 90+ every day for well over a month now) and we have not hit August yet!

Poking around, I managed to find some old historic photos taken outside of Leznov (Waldau) in the Sudetenland in the 1930s.

First one, titled "Fleckvieh Kuh auf Schienen" or, Simmental cow on track:

The second, Waldau Brücke, of interest is a wild boar hiding under the bridge, probably waiting for the train (and cow and hunter at the cabin in the first photo?) to pass?

Two more pix...

The third is a bit more puzzling, the title is "G-Maßstab Central Geschlossenen Güterwagen" Not sure what "G Scale Central" was in the 1930s, but there is a boxcar with several names on it in the photo?

And finally, Zug aus Waldau für Neustadt, meaning the next stop for this mixed train will be the Czech-German border town of Nove Mesto/Neustadt:

So enjoy these pix until I can get the Round Robin car photos, OK?

Well, the boxcar had another adventure, going with another G-scale friend not on the internet.

He decided it needed to go to work with him and actually see some real rail travel. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos, I will try and get better ones from him.

....on to Shawn in NJ next. With sand from FL and a train trip and a copy of the work orders from TN inside.

Boxcar is on its way via tracked USPS priority to NJ. Shawn, you should have it by Saturday or Monday.

For the last scenic bit of its Tennessee tour, I sent it from the post office in Buffalo Valley, TN.

The new post office is off to the left of the photo, the old one is in the center, with the general store to the right.

This is what is left of the town, a few old buildings, a post office and church, the Nashville and Eastern railroad (yup, the track sees regular service) and a very out of place Honda Accord in the weeds in the church yard.

Vic, this part of the world is chock full of great little buildings if you get off the beaten path. I-40 is about 100 yards behind those two buildings.

Honestly, the general store to the right is a MUCH more interesting building, but one cannot see it anymore due to the growth.
Here is a TDOT photo of the construction of I40 in that area in the 1960s, you can see the railway and the two buildings to the right of the highway.

I-40%20Buffalo%20Valley%20TN%20Putnam%20County.jpg

The river is the Caney Fork, which before Center Hill dam was finished, put those buildings under water several times!

Might I venture to suggest that one should be a tad carefull about it's form of contents whilst it crosses international boundaries. Sand, or other things, looked at on an x-ray machine might appear like something entirely different and give Customs a headache. Certainly UK Customs would have no hesitation in unwrapping it.................maybe suddenly!
