Every Railroad Tycoon wants his own railroad car,so after some thought and planning and putting it aside to do other projects, mine so far is about 2/3rds near completion, managed to fit in a saloon, bedroom, bathroom,wc,kitchen,,,very rough around the edges, and only first coat paint on,lots of finishing to do,second paint coats, varnishing, stowing wires,WC chain, cutlery to souce, water and waste tanks to fit, lighting to sort out,(using track power)the list goes on,but finally all coming together,so today had a dry run ,mock up to see how it all looked and a track test, some bits are dolls house, the bedframe, table and chairs, carpet, dont forget the maid!!spends all her time on her knees sweeping up :`( :`(.....oh and then to the outside,2 more coats, satin varnish, lettering,,,ALMOST THERE  ;)

Thanks for positive comments, build has come to a halt due to a problem,,,,CURTAINS  >:(cant get the required "drape"the ones on the pics are only mock ups for size, but they are not staying, experimenting with various "stuff",including wet paper, old T shirt material, cooked plasticard, amongst others,I should come up with something in the end. :) :)Meanwhile a basic floorplan

With curtains, you need (at least) 1.5 times the width of window you wish to cover per curtain.. That way you can gather the material at the top to give the correct effect.. You might need very dilute PVA, or matt varnish to 'set' the curtain to the profile you want. - I have not had long-lasting results using a laundry spray starch.. All I can think is that our stock gets damp in storage, and the curtains, despite being small, 'drop'.

Re: Private railroad car,2/3rds done,,

Thanks Phil,I was on the same lines as you say,but results disapointing and yes damp an issue, normally would"nt bother with all this messing about as all my other passenger cars sport blinds, this one however needs a little more luxury :) :) I"m really now leaning toward using paper/pva,I have knocked up a jig using scraps of plasticard sheet and shapes to the outline of the desired shape and size, plan is to use water/pva mix, soak the paper ,then stuff into the jig, biggest problem is tearing, creating the "folds"and flattening as i go,(as you suggest) then when dry should, and i say should, come out as moulded article(used same method for mailsacks and folded newspapers in my RPO)as the pva won"t take to the plasticard it should just lift out, trying now to locate some coloured paper, save painting the folds, then a coat of spray matt?If that works I will see if the pelmets and partition curtains(long drop) can be done in the same way, time ,trial and error should give me what i"m after!BUT IT SHOULD WORK :) :) Neil.

Yes Mick, maybe here too, have to check, going to look to see what the local art shop has to offer first, will probably have various grades, might be able to get a"thinish"paper, possibly easier to mould?i"m assuming that the lidl stuff is printer type,(A4)but thanks for the lead anyway MIck,certainly needs at least investigation.

Re: Private railroad car,2/3rds done,,

I would think the 'art' shop would have a more suitable range of colours..
The pads / packs of A4 coloured paper seem to either be 'bright' colours, or pastels..
Art shops may well have something more suitable??

Now, thinking about what you have said about it, the tissue paper might make a tarpaulin for my thresher (when I finish it ).

I think maybe i"m now 3/4s done and not 2/3rds :) :)some work done on the car over the weekend,as pics show, curtains made and dry run using Blue tac before final fix, needed to work out final positions of furniture etc.Drapes finally made from card, matt rattlecan varnish,,,,,then a couple of pics of the proposed final effect from the outside oo the car :)The model now stripped down for final interior paint, now second coats applied, just need to tidy some edges, some pics of interior sections here too, then its put it all together, then sort out the exterior!!! :D
