1954 SP Sunset Limited

Hello all,
Im new here and was looking for some help. I want to scratch build an entire consist for a 1954 southern pacific sunset limited. Problem is I have the drawings but no G scale measurements
Any one out their mind giving me the measurements of their aristo or usa light weight coach? Thanks!

"G" scale is not really a scale, just a catch all term for anything that rides on 45 mm gauge code 332 rail - from 1:32 - 1:13.7, generally. The USAT and Aristocraft cars were nominally 1:29. I say nominally as neither were to scale. There are major alterations from scale height and length on both. The USAT were probably the nearest, I had a rake of their "Daylight" cars, very nice but not even articulated as they should have been. What scale is the loco you are going to use and how important is actual prototypical and scale accuracy ? There are also the MTH and Accucraft cars to consider if you want to base on something - they are nominally 1:32 scale. Max

Thank you, ive been in the hobby for well over 20 years. I do know the sizes for both aristo and the usa cars are slightly different. All im looking for is dimensions and ill adjust from there. Locomotives will be from USA trains. So any usa dimensions would be stellar.

According to the brochure car length approx 33" http://www.usatrains.com/usatrainspassalum.html. Ok there are various cars, the obs' probably being the odd one out on length. Could the Charles Ro co or USAT help you directly ? Sorry, I sold my Daylight set a few years ago when I switched into 1:20.3 and 16 mm. They did look nice behind a matching ABA F3 set.

I have a small rake of Usa trains daylight cars that I run behind a PA/PB set. . I will get some measuremeants for you when I can get to my shed. The cars are generic as SPs Daylight service was made up of a number of different types of car including 2 unit articulated cars and a 3 unit diner set. Most were fitted with full width diaphrams. It was descibed as the most beautiful train in the world and I think they were right. are you planning too use a GS4 or going for diesel.

Thanks! Yes, I have every refrence book at my disposal to use for that purpose. I actually have drawings for a GS4. But thats in the far future. Might roll with PA's for now.

Just measured one of the daylight cars, a coach car, It is excactly 33 in body length, 4.1 in width and 5.875 from rail to roof.
Hope that helps.
It would be very interested to know how you get on. I am slowly working toward a rake of superliners. A freind has a cnc mill which will help alot.

Out of interest, do you know what length the USA cars would be in the real world. The model scales at just under eighty feet.

The real thing is just under eighty feet. The USA train models are derived from correctly-proportioned H0-scale models [1/87 divided by three = 1/29th].
