Concur with all the points made about the GRS kits, a good friend of mine built a set of them for his own needs (Festiniog Rly) and his Dad's Vale of Rheidol. Not sure if they were different kits or not but they match perfectly to his own GRS Ffestiniog Fairlie and his Dad's VofR GWR Live Steam 2-6-2.

Got myself two the Emily coaches last year to pair up with my "Lyn" s (I have since managed to get hold of a proper Southern "Lyn") :inlove: Though I'm still yet to find the time to run it in the garden.
I found that the Emily Coaches will not go around R1 Curves, which my layout is made from (I Know i should of listened to all the post about them and the minium radius):lipssealed:. Though I plan to mount them on some Piko 4 Wheel Chassis (with a bit of modification), which will hopefully mean I'll be able to run them as a train! The bodies are a bit along then the chassis, but will a few add parts, hopefully this will not noticeable. Just need to find the time to do it now..;).

Hello Callum, Nice to discover you on here - I remember when you first started posting your garden railway videos (and others) on Youtube - just spent some time enjoying the playlist. Can you or anybody else please tell me if the Emily coaches will negotiate LGB R2 curves?

Will they go round if you drop out the centre axle?
I doubt it - I don't think the axles pivot at all, and the centre axle wheels are flangless. It's a bit cheapo from Bachmann on the quiet.

Ironic, when you look at Fleischmann's n gauge 6-wheelers, and look at those Emily coaches - chalk and cheese in the running department. Although I doubt that 9 inch curves in n gauge are anything like as tight as R1s (carn't be a**** to do the maths :emo::emo: ).

Thanks ever so much Highlander. Really means a lot. Sadly my railway is all R1's so haven't been able to test that. As Rhinochugger has mentioned, the centre axle is flangles, but does does not help the long, fixed wheel base.
Though I did see a post that they can just around, though they do scream.

Hello Callum, you have done better than me - I havent any curves at all yet as I have decided to go for R2 and they are proving hard to source. Meanwhile an Emily coach has arrived and I think its pretty good although to me it looks a bit too shiny sitting behind my Bachmann Lynn. I must get back to Youtube and catch up on your OO and full size videos which are very impressive. All the best. David

So, how hard would it be to put a decoder in one of these, and which decoder would be suitable for my MRC set-up?

Don't MRC make decoders?

I'm sure I brought one of these at my local model shop in UK for a diesel loco....

Don't pussy foot around - R3 should be a minimum if you can possibly find the space :nod:

With the launch of the real (replica) "Lyn" on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway not far away, I thought it was time for a little running session in the garden ;)

A short running session feature the Bachmann Lynton & Barnstaple Baldwin 2-4-2T, No. 762 "Lyn" on the Blagdon & Butcombe Light Railway (B&BLR), G Scale Garden Railway, hauling a light mixed goods train, including sound wagon, featuring one of my real sound recordings.
Hope you enjoy!

Have to say at the low level and locations you take your vids with small Locomotives and Shorter Stock the R1's are not so noticeable. However with the massive garden that I know is present I think if I were you I would be saving my pennies and soiriting away more track with larger Radius Curves say 4ft (R3) Minimum Radius for the day that you wear the domestic authorities down for that great land-grab that must be in your mind. The efforts put into your current line will I am sure support this long term proposal.

Meanwhile just enjoy the shorter/runnable stock on your line.

If you go with Code 332 track, you can freely mix-and-match from most of the manufacturers - LGB, Piko, Trainline45, Aristocraft, AMS, Theil and others; the alternative is the finer-profile Code 250, which pretty much limits you to Peco and a very limited range of points and set curves. Of the Code 332 brands, there isn't really any one that is "best", although some folks prefer particular brands of points over others. LGB and Piko are probably the most readily available, and there is usually plenty of second-hand stuff available either on evilBay or from dealers. Second-hand track is fine if it's in good physical condition, even the most tarnished and garden-weathered stuff will normally clean up very well.

Jon.
Agree with that Jon, 332 is the most versatile. I prefer second hand as it is pre-tarnished and look more natural if there is such a thing.

Also, with a bit of effort, it is half price.
